All About The Flour Barn Bakery
The Flour Barn bakery is not your "tradition" bakery....so I thought I should explain how things work around here.
1. I do not have a store front or store hours. The bakery is operated out of my home/garage. So most items have to be ordered ahead of time. I do keep one freezer "filled" with items, but I would not count on that, as order always get filled before stock:)
2. I do not do business on Sundays. This is our day to be at church, with family and friends. So if I don't answer your message on Sunday that is why. Thank you for understanding:)
3. How do my products come? They come baked, frosted (if needed), and frozen (will explain). See menu for package size and prices. http://theflourbarn.wixsite.com/blog/menu
4. YES, I freeze most of my products. I know you are thinking..."What? That cant be!" Do you want to know why???
*First reason....yeast products that have NO PRESERVATIVES have a very short fresh tasting shelf life. (like less then 24 hrs) The stuff you get at a large grocery store is filled with preservatives, even the fresh bakery items. For example: If I was making bread for myself on Monday and need it Tuesday, I would still freeze it. It makes it taste fresh. The same applies for cookies, also.
*Second reason....the product will be more moist and actually have better flavor. Some of you will have a hard time believing this, but hey with FREE SAMPLES, try it out sometime.
* Third reason...This is a wonderful problem to have, but there is no possible way for me to make 1200 rolls, 8000 cookies, or 1000 dinner rolls in 1 day...even if I didn't sleep for the whole 24 hrs. And yes, I have filled orders of that size.
*Fourth reason... when freezing my product that means I have little to no waste. What does that mean for you....I can keep my prices reasonable.
*How long do I keep things in the freezer? Well, they would be good for up to 3-4 months, but rarely does anything stay in my freezer for more than 2 weeks.
IF YOU HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ON WHY I FREEZE MY PRODUCT, LET ME KNOW!
4. Cakes and cupcakes are baked and frozen. But are frosted fresh the day you need them. This also keep the cake moist for you. I do not keep cake or cupcakes in stock. They are only made for orders. Cake motto: SIMPLE, BUT DELICIOUS!!!
5. Pies are being removed from my menu. They are not my specialty and as I get into cakes, something has to go. (before my sanity:)
6. Do I deliver? Yes, but for a fee. See menu for delivery fees. Pick-up is always free.
7. Future plans: Yes, someday I would like to have a bakery, on my property. That is the long term goal. So when....I don't have a set time frame, just taking baby steps toward that goal. Why don't I just go rent a building? Well, I like the flexibility of being home. It keeps overhead low and I can keep up on things around the house (sometimes;).
